Contraindications

Please review our most current contraindications before booking your Skin Laundry appointment.

Contraindications
  • Anyone who is currently pregnant 
  • Anyone who is currently undergoing IVF (in vitro fertilization) treatment or any other fertility treatment(s) such as intrauterine fertilization, frozen embryo transfer, etc. 
  • Anyone who experiences active seizures (if you are uncertain, please consult with your neurologist) 
  • Anyone who has received systemic therapy with gold (injection-based, intravenous or oral) 
  • Anyone who is currently receiving chemotherapy or has received it within past three months 
  • Anyone with a history of organ transplant 
  • Anyone with active, visible or healing herpes simplex virus (cold sores, shingles) in the treatment area 
  • Anyone with active or visible skin infection(s), open wounds, sores, rash, eczema, psoriasis, wind or sunburn in the treatment area 
  • Anyone with diagnosed with vitiligo in the treatment area 
  • Anyone currently using Accutane (or a generic equivalent) or has used within past three months 
  • Anyone who has received facial surgeries (facelift, rhinoplasty) in the past three months  
  • Anyone who has received invasive or ablative treatments (Fraxel, CO2 laser, PDO threads) in the past 30 days  
  • Anyone who has received other laser treatments, chemical peels (including Cosemelan), dermaplaning or micro-needling within past 14 days 
  • Anyone who has received neurotoxins (Botox, Xeomin, Dysport) or fillers within past 14 days 
  • Anyone who has had laser hair removal or hydrolysis within past seven days 
  • Anyone who has used spray tan, self-tanner or tanning beds within past 48 hours 
  • Anyone who has frozen or cauterized moles, milia or skin tags within the past 14 days 

  • Anyone who has an implantable defibrillator, cardiac pacemakers or active metal implants anywhere in the body (excluding dental implants & copper IUD) 

 

  • Oral or topical supplements: Skin Laundry cannot be responsible for any adverse reactions and/or side effects that occur as we cannot verify medical evidence of a benefit or risk to your skin in combination with our laser and treatment devices 
  • Immunomodulators: If you are on an immunomodulator for a condition such as lupus, psoriasis or colitis you are at a higher risk for infection. Please consult with your physician before receiving any Skin Laundry treatment 
  • Breastfeeding clients: While breastfeeding is not a medical contraindication, we strongly urge you to speak to your physician before receiving any Skin Laundry treatment

Please review our treatment contraindications before booking your appointment. If you are uncertain about any of the below, please contact your local Skin Laundry clinic. Your Skin Laundry treatment provider will also assess your skin prior to treatment to ensure you are cleared for treatment.

LIGHT INDUCED SEIZURES

Please check with your neurologist if you are uncertain.

 

ACTIVE INFECTION OR INFLAMMATORY SKIN CONDITION

Including open, non-healed cold sores and current/active rash, eczema, or psoriasis flare up.

 

PHOTOSENSITIZING MEDICATIONS

·      Antibiotics, i.e. Doxycycline, Tetracycline, Sulfonamides: must wait one week after the last dose. 

·      Topical therapy, i.e. 5-fluorouracil: must wait one week after completion of therapy. 

·      Photodynamic therapy: must wait two weeks after completion of therapy. 

·      Oral retinoids i.e. Isotretinoin, Accutane: must wait six months after the last dose.

·      Chemotherapy:  Please check with your oncologist as some chemo medications can be photosensitizing. 

·      Diuretics may be photosensitizing.

 

HISTORY OF SKIN CANCER ON THE TREATMENT AREA

Requires a medical clearance form. Please download HERE and consult your dermatologist.

 

VITILIGO

Based on your skin assessment and consultation, our Skin Laundry medical providers may clear you for treatment as long as vitiligo has never been present on the treatment area.

 

NEUROTOXINS OR FILLERS: Must wait five days after treatment.

 

LASER TREATMENTS, CHEMICAL PEELS, MICRODERMABRASION, MICRONEEDLING, DERMAPLANING: Must wait two weeks after treatment.

 

LASER HAIR REMOVAL: Must wait one week after treatment.

 

CURRENT SUNBURN ON THE TREATMENT AREA

 

SPRAY TAN/SELF-TANNING LOTION ON THE TREATMENT AREA: Must wait one week after application.

PAST SYSTEMIC THERAPY WITH GOLD

Injection-based, intravenous or oral. 

COLLAGEN DISORDER ie. Lupus

 

INVASIVE OR ABLATIVE TREATMENTS i.e. Fraxel, CO2 laser: Must wait one month after treatment.

 

MEDICATIONS THAT DELAY WOUND HEALING i.e. Anticoagulants, immunosuppressants: Must wait three months after completion of therapy.

  • If you are pregnant and/or breastfeeding, please notify Skin Laundry staff. Prior to receiving any Skin Laundry Laser treatments, Skin Laundry recommends that pregnant and/or breastfeeding clients notify and receive clearance from their OB/GYN physician. While Skin Laundry treatments have not been associated with an increased risk of adverse reactions in clients who are pregnant and/or breastfeeding, nor would they be expected to, it's best to consult with your OB/GYN prior to undergoing any cosmetic treatment. 
  • Those with a history of cold sores should be aware that they may be triggered by heat/light and prophylactic antiviral medication is recommended.
  • Those with known keloid scarring may have increased risk of keloid formation. Hypertrophic or keloid scars will be avoided during treatment.
  • For bearded clients, please arrive clean shaven or with only up to two days stubble, as we will avoid areas with facial hair growth.
